I’m scared literally 90%+ of the time. It’s something very few people will actually admit too. Let me highlight some of the times over my last 8 years in the corporate world and as an entrepreneur that I was scared.
When I dropped out of school at 19 years old and had no idea what I was going to do but knew I believe in myself.
When I went into a national firm at 19 years old and told them I was good enough to be a full-time employee and they said I didn’t have what it took.
When I picked up the phone for the first time to cold call a company to persuade and sell them.
When I traveled at 20 years old to visit a company to sell them in person all by myself.
When I had to retain and actually perform for clients and make recommendations.
When I had to lead other salespeople, develop them, mentor them, and guide them.
When I left a 6 figure job where I could have eventually made high 6 figures over the course of a career for the unknown as an entrepreneur. Starting off making $0.
When I hired a software development company to build an app I had no idea would work.
When I had to build a company from scratch and did not know how to do anything. No roadmap was created for me.
When I had to hire people and guide them, train them, and literally be responsible for them.
When I had people leave and I did not know how to replace them.
When you get fired by a client because you make a mistake. Ouch.
When you grow and are overwhelmed by that growth and don’t know where to turn next.
When you lay awake at night because you wonder if you can handle the pressure to perform.
When you make investments in things and don’t know if they will work. And you lose money.
When you compete against bigger competitors and feel you are not as skilled.
But all of this is why I succeed. Because each time I do something I’m scared to do it makes me understand that at the end of the day, I am only scared of not doing things. Failure to me and knowing I never tried.
I tell people all the time because of my personality, I have to taste. I have to see how things will go even though I may know 100% I will fail. But understand me very clear. If you try and it doesn’t work, that does not mean you are a failure. That just means that way did not work.
What are you scared to do? Here is my advice - Go do it. It may just lead you to where you never thought was possible to go. New heights, new victories, new versions of yourself.
My mission in life? Chase my full potential. I didn’t say reach. I said chase. There is a very big difference. I will NEVER reach my full potential. That’s actually the point. It is a lifelong pursuit.
Get on that train for yourself, starting chasing, start running. You’ll be glad you did.
